This weeks giveaway…. and new mini book challenges preview
Happy Monday!!!
This weeks giveaway is whole bunch of products from October Afternoon – I love this line so so very much! You will get the Hometown collection including paper, alpha stickers and journaling cards. As well as a few Jenni Bowlin products: a couple journal jots, 2 mini bingo cards, and 3 journaling tickets. Plus 4 prima flowers and a bunch of buttons.
But this time, I’m giving you an entire week to get a comment up – so you have until Tuesday July 14 at midnight. This is because I leave on the 11th to drive down to California and I should arrive at my new house sometime on the 13th. I won’t have internet though for a couple days most likely so I will get the winner posted as soon as I have internet access.
So as I am getting ready to embark on this crazy adventure of mine, my question for you this week is: What is the scariest/ most craziest thing you’ve ever done?
Actually I have a few questions today… does anyone have any great remedies for sunburns? Yesterday I went on a 24 km bike ride with a few friends and I got really really burnt on my shoulders, arms and back. I was wearing one of those criss cross strap tank tops so I have a very funny looking pattern on my back right now! Needless to say, its very painful and having clothes or anything touching it hurts like mad! All I can really wear at the moment is a halter style backless sun dress! If you have any suggestions, I would appreciate it so much!
Next question: how many of you are interested in some monthly mini album challenges – with prizes of course. I’ve been thinking about this, and since I’m going to be in school, in order to keep up with scrapbooking and doing what I love best (mini albums): how about a year of monthly mini book challenges? So I’m going to challenge myself each month with a list of things to document/ take photos of at the beginning of the month and a certain type of mini album each month. Then all albums can get posted at the end of the month and I’ll send a prize out to one that’s chosen randomly. Who’s with me? : )
Jul 06, 2009 @ 14:16:06
I’d suggest aloe vera for sunburn, but you probably already know that one. 🙂
Most people will probably laugh at this, but off the top of my head the scariest thing I’ve ever done has been flying. We took a trip to Seattle last summer, and I almost hyperventilated during takeoff and landing. I didn’t realize how scared I was. lol. Thanks for the chance to win.
Oh, and to answer your other question…mini books are really difficult for me, but I love a good challenge.
Jul 06, 2009 @ 14:44:10
I think I like the aloe vera lotion the best over the cold green stuff! I LOVE MINI-BOOKS!!! They are my favorite, so yes to that! The scariest thing I’ve done most recently is sit front seat on the new Diamondback roller coaster at King’s Island. I use to love roller coasters… I still do but scarier now the older I get!!
Jul 06, 2009 @ 16:01:00
The craziest thing, and one of the most rewarding in the end, was creating from scratch all of the products for my destination wedding (save-the-dates, invitations, menu cards, programs, paper flowers, etc.) I was so happy with the final product, but it was sure a lot of work!
Jul 06, 2009 @ 16:36:02
The scariest thing I’ve ever done was probably moving 2000 miles away to go to college. It was also the best thing I ever did for myself! For your sunburn – I love Aveeno lotions! They have the oatmeal in them and it feels SO good to put on and it helps it to heal a bit faster. On the challenges, I probably wouldn’t participate often (due to time constraints) but I would love to see them and jump in when I can! I think it is a great idea!
Jul 06, 2009 @ 17:56:12
Aloe vera gel is the best thing for sunburn. Try to get the clear. There is a brand that is green and I think it may contain one of the “caines” to dull the pain, but the clear Earth’s Best I think it is called works for me.
As far as the craziest thing I’ve done is just up and decide one day I was going to grad school.
Jul 06, 2009 @ 18:17:32
I went skydiving for my 18th birthday…that’s pretty crazy…I have a 3 year old and another that is about to be born…that’s scary
Aloe is the only thing that I can think of….speaking of a funny tan…when I was little I had a polk a dot bathing suit and I tanned right through it..that’s right I was polk a dot.
Mini album challenge sounds like fun. Would you give a theme?
Jul 06, 2009 @ 19:04:30
Hi I use aloe vera or you can get sunburn aloe at any pharmacy…….I think your mini album challenge sounds fun.
Good Luck on your new venture.
Lana
Jul 06, 2009 @ 19:45:53
Sorry I don’t have a remedy for sunburns.
Scrariest thing I’ve ever done? Probably parasailing off the beach of Cancun Mexico!
Jul 06, 2009 @ 19:50:40
The scariest thing I’ve ever done is taking a ride on a roller-coaster… before the first plunge I’m already wishing the ride would end… it doesn’t get any better with each ride. So now, even if my husband and son would beg me to take a ride with them, I’d just say “Thanks, but no thanks…”
About the sunburn, I find the Banana Boat After Sun Care with aloe vera very soothing.
And about the monthly minibook challenge… I LOVE the idea! Would definitely play along.
Have a safe trip to California!
Jul 07, 2009 @ 04:28:45
Scariest thing I’ve done…decided to go teach in China for a month BY MYSELF! Flew over there by myself, only new 2 people once I got there…but one of the BEST experiences ever!
Mini album challenges…I’m ALL OVER IT! I’ve been getting hooked and would love some challenges to keep me going.
Jul 07, 2009 @ 04:38:39
I’m a wuss when it comes to scary/crazy. But as to a remedy for sunburn…a washrag soaked in white vinegar in ice water. I thought it was the dumbest thing when my mother first told me about it but it worked. And, I love the mini book challenge idea. I just received 2 new mini books so I really need inspiration!
Jul 07, 2009 @ 05:23:19
The scariest thing I’ve ever done is the same of Caryl Hope. I don’t like roller-coaster at all ^^
Thanks a lot!
Jul 07, 2009 @ 06:02:12
Hey, thanks for the comment on my layout! Honestly, I’ve never been very adventurous, lol. I’m more of a cautious person I guess. But I want to say congratulations to the start of an exciting new life for you! I hope you enjoy living your dream.
Jul 07, 2009 @ 06:04:06
Put the aloe vera gel in the fridge, then put it on the sunburn. It will feel so much better. Minis sounds like fun, I’d play!
Jul 07, 2009 @ 06:20:59
Aveno used to make an oatmeal bath that is good to soak in when you have a sunburn or bug bites. I do not know if they still make it. Love the idea of mini challenges, I have bit of a mini album addiction :)Great yummy goodies in the giveaway! Thank you.
Jul 07, 2009 @ 06:53:48
Enjoy your new adventure! I took off after college to the big city, no job in sight with $50 in my pocket! Talk about crazy! I didnt even know anyone there. But it was fun making my own way and I am glad I did it. sorry about your sunburn. I have always just used OTC sprays and lotions, no brand in particular.
Jul 07, 2009 @ 06:59:22
((HUGS) on the sunburn girl! OMG I can’t believe your moving….. I know you will do great! Whoever wins these papers… YOU WILL LOVE THEM! (I already have these- so skip me). I would love to join your mini book challenge – just need to find the time (where can i find time?) lol
xoxoxo Rhea
Jul 07, 2009 @ 07:38:18
Not sure what the craziest thing I’ve ever done was. lol…Does riding on the back of a 3 wheeler with no lights down road going who knows how fast count?
As for your sunburn, have you tried aloe from an aloe plant?
YES YES YES to the mini album challenge! lol…I Love me some mini albums! I think it would be a TON of fun!
Jul 07, 2009 @ 09:41:31
Take it from someone who never ever tans … cooled aloe vera (keep it in the fridge).
The scariest thing I’ve ever done was give up my entire life to join a police force at 33 yrs old..I had kids, a good job, and all the trappings of the middle class and I chose to follow the dream I had dreamed since I was 14 years old! Very very difficult at times but it certainly taught me not to let my fears stand in my way! I’ve served proudly for the past 7 years and hope to do at least 17 more!!
I adore mini-albums.. nothing better to clean up the leftovers ..I manage to use up so much of my stash doing these for the family!
Best of luck with your new life.. the first few weeks may be tough but it will be SO worth it in the end!
Jul 07, 2009 @ 10:04:54
The scariest thing I did was an outdoor tight rope walk about 100 feet in the air. I was attached to cords and stuff. It was for a “team building” exercise I did in high school. I couldn’t chicken out, because once you were up there if you didn’t go to at least the middle of the tight rope you could hit your head when they lowered you.
Sunburn: noxema all over you.
I am not the best at mini albums, but like to get ideas to get me going.
Jul 07, 2009 @ 16:11:19
The scariest thing I ever did (besides giving birth) was quitting my job and starting a business. Best thing I ever did tho. It’s been 10 years. I think you’re covered on the sunburn. Maybe take some Tylenol for the pain. Thanks for the giveaway!!
Jul 07, 2009 @ 16:51:45
The craziest thing I have ever done was when I was a teenager. I was a passenger in my brother’s friend’s car and he was a speed freak. I don’t know how fast he was going but I know I never got into another car that was driven by a crazy person.
As for sunburn, it has to be aloe vera.
As for the mini album challenge, I think I would be willing to give it a try. I have only ever done a few but have always loved the way they turned out. It would be fun!!!
Jul 07, 2009 @ 17:38:46
Scariest thing ….riding a huge roller coaster after being coaxed by some friends. Did it once, never again….I am terrified of heights!
Jul 08, 2009 @ 04:34:11
My scariest moment for me was starting life over again at the age of 36 after the death of my spouse.
Jul 08, 2009 @ 05:55:36
Bungee jumping was the scariest thing I’ve ever done. Your sunburn is probably feeling much better by now, but aloe vera is still good for it, and I love your monthly mini chalenge idea.
Good luck on your move.
Jul 08, 2009 @ 08:27:12
WOW! That is a loaded post!!! So much to write…good luck on your adventure! Safe travels to you. Craziest thing I have ever done? Well, if we are talking individual actions here I have been cave walking in Jamaica (like up to my neck in bat guano with the cave ceiling two inches from the top of my head) but in my opinion my craziest stunt was moving to a remote Northern community (not so great, very dangerous) to be a News Director at the radio station. Different province, no friends, no family around and a 10 hour drive from my nearest relatives. I was 21 and following a guy. Good thing I did, he is my husband now! LOL So sweet of you to have the giveaway…and I would LOVE to follow your year of mini albums. I LOVE MINI ALBUMS!!! I always have the ideas in my head and never force myself to sit down and complete them. I am bookmarking you right now! And a homemade vitamin E cream will work wonders on that burn. Visit your local health food store.
Jul 08, 2009 @ 08:54:52
Nice giveaway! I really love this October Afternoon line too. Your adventure sounds awesome…congratulations on being accepted! I’m in the Los Angeles area, so we are going to be neighbors. 🙂 Sorry I do not have any sunburn remedies. I usually just use some aloe gel. Mini albums are fun to make, but I stopped making them. I had no idea where to put them all! The craziest thing I ever did? Probably when I left my fiance, quit an awesome job & moved to a new town. I’m not much of a risk taker…lol. Good luck with everything on your adventure!
Jul 08, 2009 @ 09:28:11
Hello, I jumped over from the SISTV boards and wow! I soo love your blog!
I like to use the aloe vera gel for sunburns and I keep in the fridge so it’s nice and cold when I put it on the burn. I hope it feels better soon.
The scariest thing I ever did?!? Well, I am totally afraid of heights but I went to the top of the Stratosphere in Las Vegas and went over to the windows to look out.
And I think the mini book challenge sounds like fun.
Jul 08, 2009 @ 09:31:14
Take Ibuprofen (Advil) for sunburns as soon as you realize you’ve burnt. Then reach for the aloe vera or Noxema.
The craziest/scariest thing I’ve ever done was phone up my now husband and tell him that I thought I was falling in love with him.
Jul 08, 2009 @ 11:14:48
I use a really good Vitamin E cream for sunburn. It softens the skin and helps it to heal quickly.
The scarriest thing I did was quit my job and move 400 miles away from my family to marry a virtual stranger. That was 15 years ago.
Jul 08, 2009 @ 11:51:34
Ok… so the scariest thing I ever did was start up my photography business during this recession. It’s scary to be able to believe in yourself enough to succeed in a time where a lot pf businesses are failing.,
and yes to monthly mini album challenges. how fun!
Jul 08, 2009 @ 13:12:43
the craziest thing that I’ve ever done was to go be a nanny for 6 kids at the age of 21 about 14 hours away from my home- and without meeting them first other than over the phone! What the heck was I thinking?!?! 🙂
Jul 08, 2009 @ 18:10:01
was to enter into a whirlwind romance with a long-time crush 4 years later.
everything was in secret from my parents and we really did do the most crazy of things like meeting in random places or dating under-the-radar like in crowds. there were constant fears of getting caught constantly that we believe we were like spies with “enemies”.
needless to say that things didn’t work out, not between the two of us, but more of having the world against such a union. i’m reminded of “Romeo & Juliet” sort of story (without the dying part) but in a more “Crazy Beautiful” movie way.
hope your burns get better soon. it’s summer there. 😀
Jul 09, 2009 @ 00:16:53
Such a cool giveaway! Thanks for doing that! The scariest thing I’ve ever done was when I was in France on a school trip visiting the battlefields of WW1 and I went into an underground trench…pitch black, and no doubt full of horrible spiders! LOL.
For the sunburn, if you can get some kind of burn gel from a pharmacy (for normal burns), they always work great. Otherwise, some kind of lotion with aloe vera in it should help soothe it.
Jul 09, 2009 @ 03:58:36
The craziest (and best) thing I have ever done was taking off on a sailboat with my DH and cruising the Bahamas and the Eastern Caribbean down to Trinidad and back.
Jul 09, 2009 @ 06:35:05
Hope your sunburn is better and that someone has given you a rememdy. My post is a little late to help.
The craziest thing (and most exciting) adventure in my life was agreeing to move from the US and live in the Czech Republic for 4 months without any family or friends – just me so that I could open an office for the company I was working for in 2005. I flew to Prague in April for less than week to scope out office suites and to meet the 5 people that we had hired through an American missionary who moved from Prague to Croatia before I moved to Prague. Some of my co-workers thought I was crazy to go alone but it was something I knew God was calling me to do and I was EXCITED! I fell in love with the people and the city and it will always be in my heart!
As for the monthly mini-album challenge – I VOTE YES! I loved your 2008 Year In Review challenge and would love to participate if you chose to do a monthly mini-album challenge. Thanks Jess!
Jul 09, 2009 @ 08:53:42
Aloe vera gel is my suggestion. I’m terrified of heights too, and forcing myself to ride a corkscrew rollercoaster to me was the biggest, but now I can tell people that I have at least done it so they can’t ask anymore!
Jul 09, 2009 @ 13:33:51
OK looks like we all agree that aloe vera is the best for sunburn and being fair skinned I burn easy! The craziest and scariest thing I did was to open a coffee shop (kinda like the one on friends). I trained to be a barista but the night before I was scared to death and didn’t even want to get up in the morning! but it was all good!
Luv mini books…..!
Jul 09, 2009 @ 13:54:05
Craziest (ie stupidest) thing I did was in college, my roommate and another friend climbed to the top of a suspension bridge. VERY CRAZY, stupid. CindyML
Jul 09, 2009 @ 21:19:14
I went on one of those two story high slingshot rides in Mexico. What was I thinking?!?!?! It was fun though! 😀
Jul 11, 2009 @ 06:54:10
Having children! Newborns are crazy, delicate creatures from another planet. Toddlers are major patience testers and craziness inducers but the best adventure that I’ve ever gone on! And I’ve done it TWICE! I am WILD!
Jul 12, 2009 @ 20:05:09
The scariest/craziest thing I’ve ever done was pack up my family and move cross country one summer without jobs or a house lined up. Thank God for family that put up with us while we relearned everything around us and started all over again, from these experiences we grew! we became a closer family and I would do it all over again in a heartbeat!
Jul 13, 2009 @ 06:37:30
The scariest thing I ever did was a bunge jump chair. I still can’t believe I did that.
I am not a mini-book person. I have a few but don’t know what to do with them. My kids love to look at my albums so I prefer to keep my pages in page protectors in 12x12xalbums.
Have fun in Cali!
Jul 13, 2009 @ 09:28:02
Congratulations on your big-wild-scary adventure!
Now that you are in CA, remember to use lots and lots of sunscreen and protect your skin. I prefer cooled aloe vera gel for sunburns, but the vinegar suggestion works, too. You just smell like a dyed Easter egg for awhile!
I am not a risk-taker so the only scary (dumb) thing I did was back in college. My roommate and I met two guys at the beach and ended up getting on the back of their motorcycles and going for a ride. Yikes, what a stupid idea trusting two guys who we just met. I ended up praying the whole time. I was so afraid we’d crash and my parents would forever wonder what the heck I was doing on a motorcycle, in a bathing suit, without a helmet, with a complete stranger!
Since I’m hooked on your blog, I am going to take you up on your mini-album challenge! The give-away is fantastic.
Jul 13, 2009 @ 13:23:26
Hope you are enjoying the start of your new adventure. The only thing that comes to mind that I’ve done that may be considered scary/crazy was moving from the east coast to the west coast of Canada when I was only 17, leaving my whole family and friends behind. I too will be keeping up with your mini book challenges as you well know that I absolutely love mini books. One day I will get back to my 12×12 albums, but but yet. 🙂
Jul 13, 2009 @ 15:20:32
I am afraid of heights so one of my “bucket list” items was to do something involving heights. So I walked on the skywalk at the Grand Canyon! Yeah me and I didn’t even scream! It was an experience I will never forget and one I would gladly repeat. You see, we can overcome our fears! Good luck on your scary new adventure! Cheers Mary
Jul 13, 2009 @ 18:11:36
I don’t think I have done anything as scary as you are doing but I did something similar when I moved away from my family about 5 years ago. Lucky for me they are still fairly close, Alabama to Florida, and we can visit 2-3 times a year but it was still a hard transition and I still miss them very much.
You know I am a big mini book fan myself so I will trying your challenges as much as I can!
Happy and safe travels. xoxo, Christine
Jul 14, 2009 @ 08:50:12
Safe travel Jess!!!! The scariest thing I ever did was mvoing to Africa for a year to teach English when I was 21 – I had never been further than Saskatchewan!!!! I was naive, but it was the greatest adventure of my life!!!
I would defintiely love the mini book challenges!!! I am a mini girl all the way!!
Can’t wait to hear more about CA!!!!
Jul 15, 2009 @ 13:39:24
Scariest thing I’ve ever done ?? Got Married !
(only knew him 5 months and we’ll celebrat 20 years in Dec. !..turns out to be the BEST thing I’ve ever done too !)
And..today I had to get my drivers license renewed, I was worried cause I can’t see a thing , recently got glasses but they are giving me a hard time..anyway.. I passed the eye exam !! I couldn’t believe it ! I was like really? !
