So leave a comment here by Saturday, July 4 at midnight and I’ll post the winner on Sunday. : )

My question for you this week is: What is your favorite scrapbook layout or mini album (or project) that you’ve made so far? (if you have a link to it that would be awesome too!)

Have a great week! I’ll be back to post more tomorrow. This last week has been so busy (but so wonderful) being with my family, but I haven’t been on the computer much at all! If you’ve emailed me, I promise I will catch up on my emails in the next few days!

Here it is…

the next tutorial!

This one is on homemade glass pebble (or glass tile) magnets. Basically any shape or size of glass pebble or shape will work as long as there is one flat side to it.

magnets1

What you need:

- glass pebbles or tiles

- Claudine Hellmuth Studio Multi Medium in Gloss (mod podge or silicon clear rubber sealer will also work)

- foam brush

- small magnets

- craft knife

- tiny photos or patterned paper

magnets2

1. Find (or print) some photos that are the right size for your tiles and pebbles

magnets3

2. Brush on a coat of the medium to cover the entire flat side of the tile.

magnets4

3. Immeadiately stick the tile to the photo

magnets6

4. Smooth the backside of the photo out using a craft spatula. Make sure you get all the air bubbles out.

magnets7

5. If using small pebbles, cut some small squares of patterned paper or small photos if you have some printed that tiny.

magnets8

6. Using the same process as above, stick the pebble to the photo or paper. You will most likely not need to smooth out the back of the photo in these ones.

magnets9

7. Let them dry for as long as you can, (overnight is best), then trim the excess paper off from the edges. Finish off with a craft knife

magnets10

8. Use a sanding sponge to smooth off all the edges.

magnets11

9. Put a blob of medium (or you can use a hot glue gun) on the back of the tile and push a magnet into it.

magnets12

10. for the smaller pebbles, trim the paper off the edges and sand if you wish

magnets13

11. Use a smaller amount of medium (or glue) and stick the magnet to the back of the pebble

This week’s giveaway is a $10 Gift Card to the WeScrap store!

Leave a comment here by Friday at midnight to be entered in the draw. I’ll have random.org choose a winner on Saturday.

My question for you this week is: If you could have an entire day to do whatever you wanted (assuming money was no object) what would you do?

Happy 10th Birthday to Dasha!!! Dasha’s mom, Jodi, is one of my closest friends and I am so thankful to have met her. I get to see her often as she lives across the street, but those days are numbered : (

This weekend we had them both over for a little birthday dinner for Dasha, finishing off with a yummy ice cream cake!

hamster

We got Dasha this cute little hamster for her birthday. She’s been begging for another pet for so long and Jodi said it was ok if we got it for her. It was very cute as I took both J & D to the petstore and we told Dasha that I had to stop off there for something. She thought I was getting something for the dogs but she made a beeline for the small animal cages anyway to gawk over them. When we told her she could have one and that’s why we were there, she was beyond shocked! She totally reminds me so much of how I was at her age: her incredible love for animals, her love of reading, playing outside, and love of desserts! haha

Anyway it’s late, I should get to bed. I head off to Victoria tomorrow to visit my family for a couple weeks, I’ve been looking forward to this for so long. I’m sure my neices will be so much more grown up since I last saw them at Christmas! I can’t wait to see everyone.

I do have a new tutorial, I promise I will get it posted tomorrow for sure! : )

Sweet dreams

It’s never a dull moment….

…around this house! Seems like there is always something!

Last night my friend June came over for a visit, she is also a scrapbooker and is really into mini books as well. She brought her latest creations and we devoured ourselves in each others mini albums for the first little while, that was fun. Then we sat down to have tea, and I noticed Fro (the guinea pig) also had a visitor. Oscar was siting right in Fro’s cage with him!

oscarandfro1

Fro really could have cared less that Oscar was in his cage. In fact when he went over to say hi, Oscar got scared and jumped ontop of Fro’s igloo. (he really is a scaredy cat!).

oscarandfro

Oscar then jumped right out of his cage after I took this pic. So back we go to chatting and having some tea, I bite into a cracker and one of my molars falls out. OMG. I was more than a little freaked out. Turns out it was a crown, my only one, that covered a tooth I had a root canal on when I was 18. I couldn’t help thinking how lucky I was that it happened now and not in a mere few weeks when I will be in the states with NO dental coverage!

Right before I headed to bed later I noticed Oscar was back in Fro’s cage, this time he was sound asleep in Fro’s loft (the extra cube on the side of his cage). too funny!

oscarloft

and yes, that’s Fro eating yet again. It’s really all he does.

Onto today, I got up early and called my dentist the second they opened. They are awesome and were able to get me in right away. A quick 10 minutes and it was all fixed. Came home and found my entire blog had been erased somehow. Major STRESS! There was something wrong with the entire server, and WeScrap was down as well. Brent spent all day working on it and he was able to save everything and get everything back up. We still have no idea what happened but somehow files got corrupted. While this was going on, Brent’s computer packed it in. Completely. He spent about 2 hours taking the whole thing apart and putting it back together but the harddrive just would not boot up. It’s dead. Lovely. First mine went last month and now his. What a great day it was….. ugh

Well it’s late and almost Saturday – yay! Here’s hoping the weekend will be much better! : )

one last pic: Oscar enjoying the new cat post we bought them yesterday. Both cats always want to be on the top shelf and they have been quarreling all day today over it! Hissing and swatting too which they don’t normally do!

This weeks winner!

and the winner is….

Mary Howard Says:

My favorite vacation was in 2004 when the company I was working for them sent all of the management to Hawaii for a week. Half went the first week to Maui and then we had an overlapping weekend in Lanai and then the other half went to Maui. I relaxed so much and loved the sound of the waves crashing that lulled me to sleep. My room at the Maui Inn was only 50 ft. away from the shore line in Napali Bay! We also did so much fun things together. So many memories!

By the way – I just love how your furry friends all pose for the camera! It is amazing! Thanks also for the humus recipe – yum – I will have to make some this week!

Please send me your address Mary! : )

New giveaway on Monday and a new tutorial will be posted this weekend! Have a great Friday evening!

Today’s Tutorial and some random stuff…

Happy Wednesday!! It’s not even 11:00am here yet but it feels like it should be almost dinner time already! For whatever reason, I could NOT sleep last night. Well, I know the reason, but anyway. Too much on my mind, too much to think about, too much on my to-do list that hasn’t been crossed off yet… I fell asleep around 10 and was wide awake at 3:30am. As in, ready to get up and start doing stuff. Since it was pitch black outside still, I forced myself to stay in bed but by 5 I couldn’t stand it anymore and got up.

My scraproom is now almost all packed up. I have all the items I’m taking with me nicely organized and within an arms reach so if I need to find something I can do so quickly.

I greatly downsized my ribbon collection. It went from this:

ribbonbefore

to this:

ribbonbag

ribbonrolled

I rolled the thicker ribbons, and then made little spools to wrap the thin ribbons around.

I still have a bit more work to do in there today (like cleaning the closet out, yuck), so hopefully I’ll get that accomplished this afternoon.

sa

Some potentially really exciting news this week was that I was asked to teach at the upcoming SA Scrapbook Convention in SOUTH AFRICA!!!!! WOW!!!! I couldn’t believe it and was super excited! However, with my hectic upcoming school schedule, I am not going to be able to go : ( I would have needed to be away for 12 days at the end of September/ beginning of October, and there is no way I’d be able to do it with school. I’m still sad over it, it would have been such an amazing experience to go teach in South Africa.

Answers to a  couple questions I got from yesterday’s post:

Angus is a Westie (West Highland White Terrier) : ) and Zoey is a Scottie (Scottish Terrier). They are actually “cousin” breeds in the Scottish Terrier Trio along with the Cairn Terrier.

The Ice Cream Cone Cupcakes are simply whatever your favorite cupcake recipe is, poured into the cones and baked right in the cones. Just make sure you only fill them up to about 1/2 an inch from the rim of the cone and bake them on the higher rack in your oven or the bottoms of the cones will burn. (yes, found this out the hard way. Good thing we had lots of batter and cones to make another batch! ha!)

Now onto today’s tutorial! I actually have another tutorial almost finished as well, so watch for it this weekend sometime.

I got this idea last week when I was doing yet another load of dishes. It’s just something cute, and another way to use up some items in my stash : )

Dishwasher Magnet

clean4

2. Glue your magnet right into the very center of the CD

clean5

3. Glue one piece of patterned paper so it cover exactly half of the CD

clean6

4. Glue the other piece on the other half of the CD. Let the adhesive dry completely.

clean7

5. Trim all the excess paper off, then sand the edges smooth

clean8

6. Using a punch (or if you don’t have the right size circle punch, trace something to the size that you want), punch out a circle from your cardstock and glue it into the very center of the CD

clean9

7. Using some sticky back canvas, draw a cute sheep with a black pen. (or any animal or image that you’d like)

clean10

8. With a fine paint brush, paint part of the sheep in with black acyrlic paint

clean11

clean12

9. Once the paint has dried, cut the image out, then stick it to the cardstock circle in the middle of the CD. Add some letters stickers to spell “Clean” at the top and “dirty” at the bottom

clean13

10. Now go and stick it to your dishwasher- simply flip it over so it reads “dirty” when the dishes are dirty and when they’re clean, flip it to “clean”. : )

Look who’s six!

My baby turned 6 today.  When I look back at the last 6 years and how much I have gone through, good and bad, he has been there with me all along the way. My little sidekick, my best friend. Happy Birthday Angus! : )

angusjune15

He’s having a bit of wild hair day in this pic, which was taken yesterday

I have a couple pictures to share from the weekend. We had a garage sale here and my friend’s daughter came and set up a lemonade stand. We made cupcakes and cookies and she sold those and donated her profits to the local animal shelter. (what an awesome kid she is). When the garage sale was over and packed up, we drove her to the shelter and she gave them her money, it was so cute! Then we had to go visit the dogs there and it broke my heart. I wanted to bring them all home : (

we made the cupcakes in ice cream cones – they turned out so cute!

A couple nights ago we went and saw this movie:

My question for you today is: What was your most favorite vacation that you’ve ever been on?

I am working on a fun new tutorial – I should have it up on Wednesday : )

I have a new recipe for you! I was craving hummus today so I whipped up a batch using what I had on hand. It turned out really good!

Hummus

1 large can chick peas (590 ml)
2 tsp lemon juice
2 tbsp plain yogurt
fresh garlic crushed
sea salt
onion powder
parmesan cheese (about 2 tsp)
(for the crushed garlic, onion powder and salt, add to taste)

I don’t like it too lemony so if you do like the more sour taste, add more lemon juice.

Mmmm, this turned out so yummy and perfectly the way I like it.

Crisp some tortillas in the oven and you have some quick and easy chips to go with it.  Enjoy!

hummus

I just wanted to answer a couple questions that I’ve been asked recently regarding my move to the states and our pets. The dogs are just fine (thank you so much for asking : ) ) and Zoey’s test results came back showing she does not have cancer (thank goodness) and nothing else showed up either. They said she is an abnormal normal dog…. hmm… but basically she just has to have her blood and liver enzymes tested every year.

I suppose I have only been taking photos of the cats lately as they are the ones that are staying behind with Brent when I leave : (  The dogs are coming with me to California, and so is Fro, the guinea pig. I took a few new photos of the furries today.
